While most people associate tech careers in Cyprus with forex, fintech or shipping software, the island’s gaming industry has grown into a significant employer of software engineers, designers, mathematicians and product specialists. Several of Europe’s largest iGaming and sports betting operators are headquartered in Cyprus, and they hire continuously.

The Scale of Cyprus’s Gaming Sector

Companies including Bet365, Playtech and a number of Malta-founded but Cyprus-operating igaming firms collectively employ thousands of people on the island. The sector operates under CySEC licences where financial products intersect with gaming, and under the National Betting Authority for sports wagering products. Gaming is one of the island’s top-five private sector tech employers.

Career Paths in Cyprus Gaming

The most in-demand roles span technology (backend engineers, QA, data scientists), commercial (affiliate managers, CRM, payment operations) and content (game designers, UI/UX, odds compilers). Senior software engineers in gaming often earn €60,000–€90,000 with performance bonuses adding materially. This compares favourably even with cybersecurity roles, which represent the other fast-growing tech cluster.

Breaking Into Gaming Without Prior Industry Experience

Most Cyprus gaming companies hire on technical skill rather than industry background. A strong portfolio in software engineering, data analysis or digital marketing is transferable. Many firms offer relocation support and work permit assistance for non-EU hires. See our guide to Cyprus work permits for non-EU nationals for the full process. The Republic of Cyprus official portal maintains updated gaming employment information.
