Working in Cyprus financial services almost always requires one or more qualifications administered or recognised by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). Whether you are targeting a role at a CFD broker, asset management firm or payments company, understanding the certification landscape is essential before you apply.

What CySEC Regulates

CySEC is Cyprus’s financial regulatory authority, overseeing investment firms, collective investment schemes, and a growing range of crypto-asset service providers. The CySEC official website lists all regulated entities and applicable licence categories. Employers in Cyprus’s Limassol-based forex cluster are overwhelmingly regulated Cyprus Investment Firms (CIFs), and hiring for client-facing and compliance roles is tightly linked to certification requirements.

The CySEC Advanced and Basic Examinations

The CySEC Advanced Examination is the most widely required qualification for professionals in investment services. It covers markets regulation, MiFID II requirements and conduct rules. The Basic Examination is required for certain support and marketing roles. Both are available in Greek and English. Pass rates hover around 60%, so structured preparation is advisable. Passing opens doors to roles commonly paying €35,000–€65,000 — see the full range in our 2026 salary breakdown.

AML Certification for Compliance and Operations Roles

Anti-money laundering (AML) qualifications are separately required for compliance officers, MLRO roles and many operations positions. The ICA Certificate in AML and ACAMS CAMS are both widely recognised by Cyprus employers. The CySEC AML training framework mandates specific ongoing training hours, making certified professionals consistently in demand. Our article on compliance jobs in Cyprus covers the career trajectory in detail.

Which Certification Should You Pursue First

If targeting a client-facing investment services role, start with the CySEC Advanced Examination. For compliance or operations, begin with an ICA or ACAMS AML qualification. Many employers in the fintech and crypto space — covered in our article on crypto jobs in Cyprus — value both. The Ministry of Labour provides information on professional training subsidies available to Cyprus residents.
